Most home elevators in Oklahoma cost what they do nationally, $30,000 to $50,000 installed, plus a few small state fees. If a simple platform lift will do the job, the price drops a lot, somewhere between $5,000 and $20,000.

Prices by Type of Home Elevator
Nothing moves the price as much as the kind of lift you pick. Here are the usual installed costs, drawn from the middle of the published ranges.
Across the country, a two-story home elevator runs $30,000 to $60,000, per HomeGuide.
What Adds to the Price?
Every floor past two adds $9,000 to $15,000. If your existing house needs a new shaft, that can add $5,000 to $25,000.
Installation and framing labor are part of your quote, since installation needs a licensed elevator mechanic and often a carpenter to frame the opening, and Oklahoma pay data puts their median pay at $50.69 and $22.55 an hour.
A written quote shows which of these costs apply to your house.
Oklahoma Permits and Inspections
Home elevators in Oklahoma answer to the Department of Labor, specifically its Elevator Inspection Bureau. Any new home elevator or lift has to follow the national safety code the state has adopted, and it has to pass a final state inspection.
Your licensed installer gets the permits and state approvals for you. A third-party inspection must go to the Department for approval.
The table shows the most the state can charge.
| Charge | Limit |
|---|---|
| Permit review, new elevator | Up to $500 |
| Inspection and certification, new elevator | $150 |
| Inspector visit, wheelchair lift | Up to $50 |
| Inspector visit, elevator with two to four floors | Up to $200 |
The state's Elevator Safety Act and Rules sets these limits.
Who Is Allowed to Install One?
The state licenses elevator contractors, mechanics, and inspectors. Repairing or installing an elevator requires an elevator mechanic licence, and that mechanic has to work for a licensed elevator contractor. New home installations fall under the Act.
The rules are less clear for service work on a unit already in a home, because elevators already in owner-occupied homes are exempt under the Act. A mechanic pays up to $75 for the licence, and a contractor up to $200.
Checking the Elevator After Installation and Before a Sale
Elevators inside owner-occupied private homes mostly skip routine inspection. An existing home unit only gets looked at if you request it and cover the fee, and any repairs it turns up are your job.
Before a house with an elevator or lift is sold, state rules require a licensed elevator mechanic to test it or a licensed inspector to inspect it, per these regulations. Any accident on a home elevator must still be reported to the Department of Labor.
Help Paying for a Home Elevator in Oklahoma
Some Oklahoma programs may pay for or help finance a lift if you meet their requirements:
- Oklahoma ABLE Tech: Oklahomans with disabilities can borrow any amount at low interest for assistive technology. Common purchases include home modifications and lift chairs. It runs with BancFirst of Stillwater, through the loan program.
- In-Home Supports Waiver for Adults: pays for changes that make a home easier to get around. If a major purchase goes over the $2,500 yearly limit, it can still be approved, with a combined cap of $22,500 across any five-year period, per the Oklahoma Health Care Authority.
- ADvantage waiver: serves older adults and adults with physical disabilities, and covers home modifications. Its rule lists no dollar cap.
